Long Island, N.Y., has one of the highest breast cancer rates in the United States. Scientists at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center on Long Island’s North Shore, are dedicated to research aimed at developing new diagnostics and therapies for breast cancer. But these breakthroughs are only possible with strong community support.

So, what happens when a local, fourth-generation family business, driven by a passion to help advance human health, joins forces with one of the state’s leading cancer research institutes? In 2024, Aboff’s Paints once again partnered with CSHL for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, turning the business’ commitment into action. Through a generous and creative campaign, a portion of the proceeds from every gallon of premium paint sold in stores and online during the month of October was donated directly to one of CSHL’s leading breast cancer researchers, Associate Professor Camila dos Santos.

The Aboff family joined dos Santos and her lab at CSHL in early February to present the donation. “We’re thrilled to have raised $50,000 for breast cancer research—our largest total yet,” said Matthew Aboff, owner of Aboff’s Paints. “What started as a company goal has grown into a community-wide effort, and seeing the impact firsthand at the Lab is truly inspiring. We’re excited to team up again in October 2025.”

CSHL is grateful to the Aboff family and Aboff’s Paints for their generosity and commitment to advancing research.
