  • Need Help Selecting a Sheen?

    What is Sheen?

Sheen is the level of gloss or shine in a paint color, which determines how much light is reflected on the paint's surface. Paints with higher sheen levels appear glossy, while lower sheen levels appear flat.

    Guide to Choosing a Sheen

Whether for interior paintsexterior paints or wood stains, determining which sheen type works best for your project is important. It impacts the surface's durability, its ability to hide flaws and how it reflects light. Here's a quick guide on key differences between the sheen types available at Aboff's Paints:

    • Gloss level: How reflective or shiny the paint is upon application
    • Durability: Ability to withstand daily wear and resist scratches and stains
    • Washability: Resistance to dirt, spills and fingerprints
    • Touch-up ease: Ability of a repainted area to blend seamlessly with the surrounding surface
    • Imperfection hiding: Ability to conceal imperfections on the surface
    • Best uses: Areas of the house where a specific sheen is most suitable for use

Refer to this table for a quick, comprehensive comparison of different sheen types available at Aboff's Paints.

  • Before you or your contractor buy paint, find out exactly how much you'll need. If more than one room is being painted with the same color, add up the total square footage.

PLEASE NOTE: These calculations are not intended to give more than a rough estimate. Precise paint needs will vary according to many factors, including application method. These calculations assume 2 coats of paint and do not include the ceiling.

    TINTED PRODUCT IS NOT RETURNABLE

Use the following formula to estimate the amount of wall paint you need. Double the result if the walls require two coats.
    1. Add together the length of each wall.
    2. Multiply the sum by the wall height, to find the total wall area.
    3. Subtract 20 square feet for each door to find the actual amount of wall area you’re painting.
For Example: If you have 2 doors (2 x 20 =40); you would subtract 40 square feet.
    4. Divide this figure by the paint coverage (400 square feet per gallon), and the result is the number of gallons to purchase for one coat.
    5. Multiply this figure by 2 and the result is the number of gallons to purchase for two coats.
